Laughing Jack
Greenock Barossa Valley Shiraz 2006
|
|
Good colour; red fruits and a slight brambly complexity to complement; the palate is generous, and exhibits a liveliness that belies the apparent weight and richness of the wine. Screwcap.

Jack's Barossa Valley Shiraz 2006
|
Dark and deep notes to the savoury, tarry core of the fruit; displays good texture on the rich mid-palate and liveliness to the finish; a big, plush over the top example for those who like a little more of everything. Screwcap.

Laughing Jack Barossa Valley Shiraz 2005
|
Medium- to full-bodied; lusciously rich, but not jammy or over-ripe flavours of blackberry, licorice and dark chocolate; good structure. Cork.

Laughing Jack Shiraz 2004

Laughing Jack Shiraz 2003
|
A complex mix of confit black fruits, plum and quality oak; the tannins expressive but balanced; excellent outcome for the '03 vintage. Cork.

Laughing Jack Shiraz 2002
|
Retaining hue well; medium to full-bodied; highly focused black fruits, with touches of licorice and chocolate; exceptional length, and balanced tannins and oak. Cork.

Laughing Jack Limited Three Old Vine Moppa Barossa Valley Grenache 2005
|
Far more substance, both in fruit flavour and structure, than most Barossa Valley grenache; juicy black fruits with multi-spices and controlled tannins; 1920s planting, 1 tonne per acre. Cork.
16% alc. Rating 95 Drink 2020 $45 Date Tasted Dec 07 |
Laughing Jack Limited Two Barossa Valley Shiraz 2004
|
Concentrated black fruits plus touches of licorice and dark chocolate; the cork quality does not inspire confidence, but the intensity of the fruit does; manages to carry the alcohol, the drinking span giving the cork the benefit of the doubt; 60 dozen made ex two barrels. Cork.
16% alc. Rating 94 Drink 2021 $85 Date Tasted Dec 07 |

| This is a very dark, black red colour, clearly showing the youth and intensity of the fruit in this fantastic wine. It's incredibly aromatic already, although perhaps a touch tight still. Its all rich and ripe fruits, plums, blackberries, with an almost cherry ripe edge to it, ccomplexed by intriguing touches of spice, black pepper and chocolate. This is what Barossa Shiraz should all smell like. The palate does not disappoint - it's deep, dark and full of rich and ripe fruit, liqueur plums, dark berries, and blackberries, with are really creamy texture to it .... it's still tight and brooding in the glass. This wine has got great future ahead of it. The finish is incredibly long and full of flavor, with a l line of fine and tight tannin running through the wine giving it great structure. Fabulous wine, and one for the cellar, if you can leave it alone for that long! The Auswine panel |

“Laughing Jack winemaker Shawn Kalleske is fast building a reputation as a cult winemaker to watch, with rave reviews from the U.K. as well as in Australia. James Halliday has consistently rewarded Laughing Jack with exceptional scores in the mid-to-high 90s, Kalleske's premium release Limited Two and Three range of Barossa reds are now almost impossible to source.”

In the red wine section I have listed some great vintages. From the Barossa Valley the Laughing Jack Shiraz is simply outstanding. Produced by the Kalleske family at the vineyard they established in 1855 this is another example of one of the many award winning wines from this producer.
